Fredrick Douglas escaped Slavery. He was the first black man to hold a high U.S government rank. He was recruited for the Black regiment. He gave advice to President Lincoln.
Harriet Tubman
Harriet Tubman was the most well known Underground railroad "conductor" She escorted a total of 300 slaves to freedom. She made 19 different trips from the North to the South on the railroad. She was wanted by the Law with a 40,000 reward on her wanted poster
Dred Scott
Dred Scott tried to get his freedom by suing through the courts. He took it all the way to the Supreme court but could not be in court because he was black. His case was influenced by the nomination of Lincoln. He was set free by his master's son.
